To my sweet friend with a baby on the way....

Image
I didn't realize how quickly our loss would put me into a category where certain situations were just.... awkward. A couple of weeks after we shared with the world that our sweet Francesca Joy was born sleeping, it happened for the first time. It was one of my friend's birthday. I had it written on my calendar, so I went to send her a message on Facebook saying happy birthday, but I realized we were no longer friends. Confused, I went to her wall and searched. We were just talking the week everything happened? Did I say something wrong? Did I offend her? But, there it was. Just a few days after we announced our loss, she announced her news that she was expecting. I still sent her a message. I said happy birthday and that I just saw her news and I was so happy for her. I didn't hear back from her and so I began to think that maybe she was feeling a couple of ways: 1. Guilty  2. Scared  So, I am writing this blog post in order to help myself and MAYBE other Momma...

FJM: Detoured

Image
I was an hour from home and there it was. A giant yellow flashing sign that said ROAD CLOSED AHEAD, DETOUR. I wanted to scream. I had been in the car for seven hours already and the last thing I had the patience for was a detour. As much as I was enjoying listening to the audio book of The Magnolia Story by Joanna and Chip Gaines, I just wanted to be home. Tears started to well up for about the tenth time on this journey, but I gripped the wheel and continued on. I would be home eventually.  As I took the detour, I know you must have been watching me upset. I was so tired as I just spent the weekend honoring you and that takes an emotional toll on your Momma. Sometimes, I feel like your name is all I have. I put all of my energy into speaking your name with grace. I get so angry about the mere twelve hours I got to spend with you and I get even angrier at myself for not loving on you as much as I feel I should have while you were in my belly. The anger with myself is what ...

Whole30: Why, What, How, & RESULTS!

Image
Gosh, I cannot believe I am even writing this! I finished my Whole 30 journey this past week, but it feels like I literally just started it yesterday... without all of the first week symptoms. I wanted to take some time to not only share HOW I went about this journey, but WHY. I know there are people out there who could potentially relate, so here I won't spare ANY details. WHY? This is a major question people ask. WHY WOULD YOU DO THIS TO YOURSELF?! Seems to be the common theme. Well, here's why: 1. Hormones. Before I became pregnant with Frankie, we were advised that I should do an elimination diet. Certain foods can trigger certain hormones and not allow certain natural things to happen. We were testing out fine as far as fertility goes, so, I figured, what do we have to lose?! I started by cutting out gluten and within a couple of months, we were expecting :) SO, I pretty much am aware that my hormones ARE in fact affected by foods. After giving birth, it's totall...

FJM: Your Best Friend's Baptism Day

Image
Good morning, sweet girl! Today is a very special day. Today, your best friend, Ezzy, is being Baptized. We know you know all of this already, but I want to tell you all about what today was like here for us on Earth. Your perspective was probably much more exciting and I can't wait to hear about it one day. So, let me take you back to a few days ago. I saw that nice lady that helps me sort through the sadness  and confusion I feel from missing you and she helped me to remember and recall YOUR Baptism day. This event was so important for your Daddy & I. We didn't know it then, but as time has gone on, we realize in that moment we handed your soul completely over to God. We know you are His child, we know His son, Jesus, is teaching you to pray and when we worry about you, that thought alone can calm me down. The morning after you were born sleeping, we had your grandparents and your Uncle Paul come back to see you one last time and we planned your Baptism to take plac...

Whole30 HALFWAY POINT Review!

Image
We made it to the halfway mark!  I cannot believe how quickly this 30 days is actually going by and I cannot believe even MORE that I haven't even considered caving ONCE. I have had a few minor cravings, but nothing that I wasn't able to manage with other activities. The recipes I have been experimenting with are honestly so good that I cannot wait to sit down and eat them! My body feels so regulated and scheduled that it is hard to even consider going back to my old ways of eating.  Here is the WEEK 2 RECAP and my experiences from days 8-14: Day 8: Headache. My head was literally pounding when I woke up, but once I got myself moving, I was able to fight through it. Day 9: Increased energy, I was able to wake up to the early alarm and push through my workout (it felt a little off, but it got done) and I started to feel like my mental clarity was really THERE. Typical Breakfast/Lunch Day 10: Um, confused... I was feeling really great, like I could tell I was los...

Buffalo Chicken Wings (& Ranch for Dipping!)

Image
Okay, friends. I heard you. Dave and I both posted a picture of the Whole30 approved wings we made the other night and the amount of people that commented or asked for the recipe was overwhelming, so I am scrambling to get it onto the blog ASAP so you can all make them for SUPER BOWL SUNDAY & all of your wings needs.  And let me just preface this by saying... wings are Dave's most favorite food of all time in all of the world and he goes out for "wing night" with his "bro friends" once a week. So, the fact that we made these AMAZE-BALL wings at home that I, too, felt good about eating.... well this could just set our marriage on fire.  Here ya go: INGREDIENTS FOR WINGS: -frozen wings -parchment paper DIRECTIONS FOR WINGS:  -preheat the oven to 375 degrees -In a large pot, place the frozen wings and fill with water. Bring the water to a boil and let boil for 6-10 minutes, depending on the amount of wings you have. This will remove a lot of t...

Chicken Meatballs & Spaghetti Squash

Image
annnnnnd, we have a new favorite dinner up in here! I could not believe how much flavor these meatballs had and how I went to bed excited that I was going to get to eat them again the next day. I didn't feel like I was at all missing out on the regular noodles my husband was eating right across from me at the dinner table and was full and satisfied when this meal was over-- winner winner chicken meatball dinner!  Here's how it goes: INGREDIENTS: 1lb ground chicken 1 large egg, beaten 1/4 onion, finely chopped 2 cloves garlic, minced 2 tsp minced fresh oregano (or 1 tsp dried) 1 tsp salt 1/2 tsp black pepper 1 spaghetti squash DIRECTIONS: Let's start with that dang squash because it's going to take a while. Here's how I get it done: -Preheat the oven to 425 degrees. -poke holes all along the top side of it and throw it in the microwave for 5-6 minutes. This should soften it up enough to cut it in half. -Scoop out the seeds, drizzle the insides with...
